So with all these red flags showing up after reblogging someone’s photo, many of us may wonder what sort of repercussions or punishment from Tumblr this will entail. Communication on this has been rather poor, and since many of us have posted at least some pieces with some skin in the past, we feel threatened and molested by these red flags showing up on various posts. Who has the time to go through tens of thousands of their past posts to delete all photos with skin? I have great understanding for people wanting to leave this sort of harrassment and uncertainty, and go in search of a more peaceful blog environment. Tumblr must understand that most of us have enough real problems on our hands in our daily life, without Tumblr molesting and nerving us in what’s supposed to be our time to relax and find new strength.

More you might like
Tumblr, you’re scaring many of your users.
A sad day for freedom of expression on Tumblr.
December 17 is going to be a very sad day for the tumblr community,
as many wonderful people will be forced into leaving, or are deciding to
run away from the type of censorship which Tumblr has decided to
enforce from that day on. It’s heartbreaking, as many good blogs, which had done absolutely no harm, will most likey close down, as they will become a prime target. I wish each of you who have decided to leave all
the very best, and that you will find spaces that will be more tolerant
to your life-style and artistic expression. What a sad ‘christmas
present’ the tumblr administrators have thrown at us all. I pray your
hearts will find love and openness elsewhere or in some other form.
Thank you for all the wonderful contributions of yours that I’d been able to enjoy. May your journey be blessed.

Censorship of Tumblr will kill it, and its such a shame as this has been the best place for artistic freedom and free speech and expression for a long time. I am very sad that a lot of the blogs I follow will be forced off here, it feels like losing familiar friends.

ways to save your current tumblr posts
- use the wayback machine! you do have to archive each page of your blog individually but once you do all the content, including media, will be saved exactly as it was at the moment you archived it.
- wordpress allows you to directly import whole tumblr blogs, and if i recall correctly it’s something both dreamwidth and pillowfort have said they are working on.
- tumblthree is a great tool with a ton of functions including downloading whole blogs, only posts tagged with a certain tag, all the posts you’ve liked, etc. etc. along with being able to download every type of media hosted on tumblr (pictures, videos, audio, everything). it also has a proper GUI so no computer knowledge required beyond downloading and running programs!
- if you have some knowledge of computers you can try this github solution which uses a python script to download your whole blog to your computer. even if you don’t know anything about programming or the command line they give a very good beginners tutorial on how to use it so you should still give it a shot!
- if that’s still a little daunting you can try soarcodes’ tumblr post that also has a decent tutorial!
- here’s another python script that should allow you to archive all the images from your blog or your likes, though it requires some knowledge of python and the command line or very very good google skills.
some notes
edit: please stop commenting on this post to self-promote your porn accounts on other sites. those replies / reblogs will be deleted or hidden.
please note that every site on this list will have pros and cons, and i haven’t listed them here since this post would be a mile long otherwise. please do your research before moving completely over to another site in case they have policies you disagree with.
also, because I see a lot of misinformed people ranting about this: deviantart does not own the art you post. some years ago hot topic stole a ton of art from DA and sold it on merchandise and people assumed that DA gave them permission to do it despite there being literally zero evidence for that claim. DA explictly states in their TOS that you retain copyright and sole license of the art you post.
and related, mastodon does not allow or condone CP or pedophilia. the people spreading this info are misinformed about what mastodon is. it is not an exact twitter clone; anyone anywhere can host a mastodon instance using their personal computer as a server, which means mastodon as a company can’t do jack shit to moderate them. what they DO is permanently block all users from every other instance from viewing or interacting with that instance, and add that instance to a publicly viewable list along with the reason for the block. please give their post about anti-abuse measures a read before making snap judgements.

Countdown to December 17 and possible steps to take…
Apparently many have not survived the first onslaught of Tumblrs “vacuum-cleaner” who was let loose on the poor tumblr community. From what I can see, quite a few followers have been leaving to other sites. A warm goodbye from me, I will miss you and thank you for the many wonderful impressions you shared. Many of those still here are wondering what might happen on December 17. I don’t know either, but all the wild “flagging” their robot did the other day leaves little room for speculation. It left many bewildered and very upset with Tumblr, to say the least. So if you are one of those, like me, who has posted a lot during the past years, you probably realize too that it’s impossilbe to go clean up your blog from every piece of skin you’ve ever posted. For me with over 160′000 posts this is impossible. Chances are not unrealistic, that blogs like mine might get “sacked” by Tumblr. Here some possible steps to take:
1) back up your own most important posts, the ones you can’t afford to loose
2) Perhaps copy your blog over to an alternative site, like wordpress for example
3) open some other blog on some other site. At this moment I can’t make any suggestions on which one might be best as I’m just in the process of trying out a few of them myself.
4) if they close down your Tumblr-blog then you can open a new one and abstain from any wild stuff. Cat pics might still be ok. Though most people would probably not want to come back to Tumblr after having been harrassed and molested in such a way.
5) Find some alternative project in life that will provide a way to communicate with others and or share your creativity.
6) LIfe sometimes sucks, but it goes on.
Much love to all. Will really miss all those of you who are leaving! When you move to a new blog you can look for me under “serenosky”. Thank you for all the love you shared and don’t let this Tumblr-Robot discourage you from having a wonderful life!
